Google has launched Hangouts back in 2013 as a successor to Google Talk. The app was used as a default Android app for instant messaging and group chats. Moreover, the app was also integrated within the Gmail desktop version while communicating with other.
Later on, Google has also added support for SMS messaging just to make the app more convenient while using. However, unfortunately, the Google Hangouts did not get as much popularity as the company expected. A few years later, Google has also launched Allo and Duo as simple-to-use instant messaging apps, as well.
Google is taking this step as the company is working on an RCS( Rich Communication Service). The company will introduce this feature in the Android messaging app.
However, if you are using Hangouts, you still have some time before Google eventually pulls the plug.
