PM Imran due in Peshawar today

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to visit Peshawar on a one-day trip today to hold meetings with the members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

He will chair a provincial cabinet meeting at Governor House, which will be attended by Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and others.

He will be briefed about the provincial government’s 100-day plan and targets achieved during these days in various fields, including health, education and local government.

The premier is also expected to inaugurate four shelter homes, established by the provincial government under the 100-day plan, in Peshawar today.

Around 430 people will be accommodated in the shelter homes where they will also be provided with food by the government.

On Nov 25, CM Mehmood Khan had approved setting up three new shelter homes in Peshawar, directing authorities to collect data of homeless people.

Chairing a meeting at CM house, he had directed authorities to make arrangements for establishing shelter homes in line with the directives of Prime Minister, Imran Khan.

The meeting among others was attended by Chief Secretary, Naveed Kamran Baloch, Additional Chief Secretary P&D, Shahzad Bangash, Principal Secretary to CM, Muhammad Israr, Finance Secretary, Shakil Qadir, Commissioner Peshawar and concerned officials.

The participants were told that at present there were 11 shelter homes in the province among which three were in Peshawar while the remaining ones are situated in regional headquarters that needs rehabilitation.

Addressing the attendees, Mehmood Khan directed rehabilitation of existing shelter homes and asked to compile data of homeless people for proper identification.

On Nov 24, the prime minister had directed setting up tents in Lahore city of Punjab for the homeless people in the backdrop of severe weather.

The premier took to Twitter and announced that he had directed Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar to arrange tents for the people sleeping on footpaths and provide them food.

The premier expressed that the arrangement was temporary until the Panah Gahs (shelters) are built, as the weather is turning increasingly cold.


The incumbent premier stated that spots in Peshawar and Karachi were also being identified to erect the tents for the people who have to spend the night under the sky.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also shared few pictures substantiating that the camps were being set up for the homeless in Lahore and food was also being provided.


A couple of weeks ago, the prime minister had laid the foundation stone of the Punjab government’s shelter homes project.

According to the spokesperson of the Punjab government, five shelter homes will be set up outside Data Darbar in Lahore in the first phase of the project.

The project is aimed at restoring the self-respect of those people who spend the night under the open sky. It is also aimed at broadening the circle of social responsibility by the state and citizens.
