Washington’s calls for “pushing first” against Russia invoke the danger of nuclear war, Russian upper house lawmaker Oleg Morozov told Sputnik on Saturday.
MOSCOW (WebPaki News / Sputnik – 09th February, 2019) Washington’s calls for “pushing first” against Russia invoke the danger of nuclear war, Russian upper house lawmaker Oleg Morozov told Sputnik on Saturday.
US Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson said at the Atlantic Council on Wednesday that the US Navy had to “push first in a couple of areas” and force Russia to respond to US moves instead of responding to any aggressive move by Russia.
“In fact, this is war. Notably, it has no clear reasons behind it, as our actions look like minimal self-defense, compared to US and NATO military activities … Any local conflict between the United States and Russia is fraught with use of nuclear weapon and the beginning of a big war,” Morozov said.
The lawmaker added that Richardson’s statement could be qualified as “delirium,” while its true meaning was alarming.
“We just hope that those Americans who really have the finger on the war button will not listen to these calls. One can’t juggle the fate of humanity in such a manner. We hope that this is not this nut who determines the level of political thinking in the United States,” Morozov added.
Russia-US relations, which have long been tense, have recently deteriorated further due to Washington’s suspension of its obligations under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty over Russia’s alleged violations, which have repeatedly been denied by Moscow.
